One Quilt, Two Quilts, Three Quilts, MORE!!

One Quilt:

Everyone is different when it comes to how they want their quilts quilted, some people like really open quilting, others prefer to have their quilts tightly quilted, some like all Edge to Edge designs and other's like custom quilting.  I can honestly say that this week has been a complete mixture of all of these types of quilting and I've loved it!

ONE QUILT is a quilt that is on the small side (small compared to what I recently completed!), it's a perfectly square 60" quilt and is a shop sample.  I was asked to quilt whatever I wanted, with whatever color thread I wanted!

Here it is!  I'm really happy with how it turned out.  First things first, the pattern that was used to quilt this quilt is a Christmas Flower by Sweet Dreams Quilt Studio and the thread color is Cedar King Tut Thread.

I love the back of quilts!  If you click on the picture you can see it up close!

Another picture of the front!

This is the border.  The pattern didn't come or have a border available for it so I made my own!  Yes I LOVE my Gammill Statler Stitcher!!!  I can do so much with it!  This is what I did, you can see that right next to the border is the actual pattern that I took the flower from and the connecting 'flower bud' and put them together to create a border.  Neat!

Here's a snapshot of the complete block, you can really see where I got the border from!

Anchor Quilt

Our daughter (Jackie), her husband (John) and my grandson (AJ) came home for a visit in December.  Our daughter is an Officer in the US Air Force (Labor & Delivery Nurse) and her husband is an Air Traffic Controller in the US Air Force, John is heading to Korea for a year the beginning of February so they all came home for a visit prior to his leaving.  Here's a snapshot of Jackie (center), AJ (blue sweatshirt) and our grandson Austin (red sweatshirt) the day they arrived (John was busy getting all their luggage together).  It was so wonderful to have them all home, their visits are never long enough but I am very thankful that they get to come home.

While the kids (I know, they are grown adults but they'll always be my kids!) were home my daughter wanted to make a quilt for a shower present for her best friend Denise who's baby is due soon.  On my way to the Airport I stopped at a local Quilt Shop (The Scarlet Thread) and picked up some fabric to make a quilt.  The pattern we decided on was real simple, 5 1/2" square blocks sewn together, Jackie made the top and I did the quilting on my Gammill Statler Stitcher.  It was a team effort and I enjoyed every second that we were working on this quilt.  Here's a few pictures of the completed quilt.... (If you click on the pictures they will enlarge so you can see the detail.)

The back, I really liked the Anchors, it tied in perfectly with the fabric and the red quilting thread really pops on the quilt!  The navy blue has white anchors on it,  the light blue is ropes, the white has navy blue sail boats on it and the white has red stars.

Here's a picture of the front.  If anyone needs a quick and easy quilt to make up for a baby this is the perfect quilt, it takes no time at all to put together and then send it off to your favorite Long Armer and have them pick the perfect quilting pattern to tie it all together!!

You may have to enlarge this photo to see what I did on the Long Arm.  My daughter and I talked about the Signature block but because this is a baby quilt and we want Denise and the baby to use it I wanted the signature block to be part of the quilt so I programmed my Gammill to stitch out the signature block.  It says: Made with love for Benjamin Charles St Peter by Jacqueline Cropper & Margaret Leuwen.

My daughter is sending me pictures of Denise opening the quilt, as soon as I get them I'll add them to this post!

Civil War Quilt

I had the honor to quilt this for Ruth!

This block was the center of the quilt.

Here you can see it surrounded by some of the different blocks.  The quilt is quite large so it was impossible for me to get a picture of the entire quilt.

Isn't it beautiful?

There is a second frame of brown, blue and cream blocks that frame the log cabin blocks and then there is a third border that frames the entire quilt.

I love the way the log cabin blocks Frame the blocks which in turn frame the center block.

A picture of the blocks

Stars are always beautiful in a quilt!

One block equals three Stars!!  Love it!

A close up of the log cabin blocks.

The batting used in this quilt was Wool, I love the way it turns the quilt all 'Puffy'!

I know, I got carried away with photographs!!

Pretty!

This quilt makes me want to make another Sampler Quilt!!

Here's a good picture of one of the borders!

The center block!

This quilt made me think of all of the blocks I made when I first started quilting.  My very first quilt was a sampler quilt.  I loved making that quilt because it taught many of the basics of piecing different types of blocks and was a great foundation when learning to quilt!

I'm starting to think that it may be time to design a sampler type quilt for 2013!!

A Beautiful Christmas Quilt!!

I had the honor to quilt a beautiful Christmas Quilt today!  This quilt is so perfectly square and straight!  It was a real pleasure to quilt it!!  I hope the customer likes it as much as I do!!

Isn't it beautiful?

It is quilted in a large all over Curly Swirl Pano with Gold Thread!

A close up of the large swirls.

This is the back!!

Isn't it pretty?

This quilt has put me in the Christmas Spirit for sure!

Kendra's Quilt!

This is Kendra's very first quilt and it's someones Christmas present!
Don't you wish it was going under the tree for you?

Kendra did a fantastic job making this quilt!

All of her sashing strips were STRAIGHT and so were the borders!

It was obvious when I quilted it that she measured her quilt in at both ends and in the center to determine the length of her borders!  She did GREAT!

The stitch is a tightly stitched all over meander.

The thread color is Oasis variegated.

I can't believe that this is her first quilt!

This was a really nice quilt to quilt!

Thank you Kendra for having me quilt this for you!

Happy Quilting!

Another Quilt Done!

This quilt was so much fun to quilt!  The owner said I could do anything I wanted with this one
so I did!!!

There are a total of 13 blocks with the center being appliqued.  Only one of the blocks was repeated (the basket at the top and the bottom) so I figured I needed to quilt EVERY block differently!

Here we go!!

Basket

Talk about fun!
There were aspects of the quilting patterns that I liked and worked well with this beautiful quilt, but there were also aspects of the quilting patterns that I didn't so I manipulated the patterns to be what I wanted them to be based on the blocks!  I LOVE doing this! It is so much fun to take a quilting pattern and change it so that it 'fits' the beautiful quilt!!!

This block was the simplest that I did, the white with small flowers was a real tight meander and the blocks are a flower that is similar to the flower in the fabric.

The quilt is directional so the quilt is also directional,  The heart that you see at the bottom is actually straight up and down.  I think the photographer needs to go back to school :)!!

See the design in the black block?  That's a part of another design that I took apart and only used part of it so it would fit in the block!

It's a little tough to see but if you take a look at the pattern in the tan and black block, that is actually a part of the block from one of the borders, I took that block, duplicated it and created an entirely new quilt pattern that fit the quilt!!

So wish you could see this one better!  The tan and brown blocks are feathers and the other blocks have a beautiful heart with scroll work inside it!

See those small white blocks?  In those I found a really simple circle to quilt in these tiny blocks.

See the pattern in the black block?  That's part of the border and is also the block that I duplicated and combined to make another pattern.  The tan and black triangle have a heart pattern with scroll work.

The basket again.

My quilting room just isn't big enough to get a picture of the entire quilt!  I'm working on this issue, I need something to hang quilts from so I can take the pictures.  Any suggestions??

I'm off to take more pictures before the customer gets here to pick up her quilt!  Can't wait to show you!

Happy Quilting!
