Petit Fours by Hummingbird Highway

Hi Everyone!

I had a chance to do a little sewing of my own this past weekend and I decided that Joan Ford's pattern 'Petit Fours' would work out great!  The pattern calls for a Layer Cake, a Jelly Roll and then a small amount for the binding and inner border.

I used a Jo Morton line of fabric for the 10" Squares and a Moda solid Jelly Roll to go along with it.  I am THRILLED with how it looks!

The pattern was not difficult at all but I did make a cutting mistake along the way.  I've read both of Joan's books (Cut The Scraps & Scraps Plus One) and LOVED both of the books.  I found them VERY easy to read and are both filled with fantastic hints.

These colors are not my normal colors by any means but this quilt already has someone's name on it for Christmas!  Yes, one Christmas present done with the exception of the label!!!

I thought you might enjoy a peek at the back.

Happy Quilting!

Perfect Points Quilt

I've had a couple of requests on my YouTube channel to show the quilt I made when demonstrating how to make Perfect Points and how to Bind A Quilt.

This quilt was designed by Pam & Nicky Lintott and is in their book titled Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts.  The name of this pattern is Old Gold and is made from 1 Layer Cake and 1 Jelly Roll and finished at approximately 72 x 80.  This book is filled with 18 different quilt patterns that are all made from Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls and Charm Squares.  At this point I've only made this one quilt but there are a few others in this book that I'd LOVE to make!  The directions are easy to understand and this book is a great book for beginners!

You can see my Perfect Point Video here.
You can see my How to Bind a Quilt Video Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
You can see my How to Attach Borders Video here.

If you would like information on where this book is available for purchase please email me at missmarker@rochester.rr.com.

Thanks!

Happy Quilting!

One Quilt, Two Quilts, Three Quilts, MORE!! Cont.!

You saw One Quilt....  Now here's Two Quilts!

A Jelly Roll!  I LOVE these quilts!  They are so individual and all so pretty!

The quilting pattern is Berry Vine and the thread color is Caravan!

A very beautiful Quilt made by Jane!!  Great Job!

And now for THREE QUILT!  You aren't going to believe this one, it is stunning!!!

Isn't it beautiful?  This quilt is Custom Quilted.

It is quilted with Sands of Time thread color.
The pieced block was quilted with Allissa Block 2.

It's hard to see in these pictures but the setting triangles were quilted with Feathers.

The Feathers weave their way around the pieced blocks.

Here's a close up of the blocks.

And now for the BACK!
The backing material is black with a small gold leaf, the perfect back for this quilt!

Here you can see the way the Feathers weave their way around the blocks.

This quilt was a joy to quilt, it is a truly exceptional quilt!

That's One Quilt, Two Quilts, Three Quilts and MORE to come!!!

Happy Quilting!!

Sunday's Design!

I woke up this morning with a strong desire to design a quilt for myself!  BUT I had some issues to overcome.

  • I needed to be able to do it in 1 day
  • I didn't want to purchase any additional fabric
  • I wanted the finished size to fit our bed (Queen Size)
So I sat down with my first cup of coffee, a pad of paper, a calculator and started drawing.  By 10:00 AM I had come up with a design and was off sewing!!!

While this pile of fabric MAY look like a mess to some of you, to me it is proof that it really is possible to make a quilt in one day!

Check in tomorrow to see the completed QUILT!!

Happy Quilting!

This Weekend's To Do List is FULL!!!!

What’s on your ‘to do list’ for this weekend?  Mine is packed full!

I recently designed a quilt using Moda’s Kusari line of fabric.  The design uses one Jelly Roll, background fabric and a border fabric.  I am filming it as a step by step series and will be posing it on my Blog and on YouTube so that you can follow along and make one for yourself!  This quilt will be a quick and easy quilt that will be able to be completed in a weekend.  It would be a perfect last minute Christmas present, so if you’ve got someone on your list that you need a quilt for I’ve got the perfect design!  Here's a peak at the fabric!!

I just HAD to show you a small pic of one of the quilts that I will be loading onto the Long Arm this weekend to be quilted!  Can’t wait to start it!

Grandkids at Halloween!

First and foremost pictures of my grand kids from Halloween!

Lyon Margaret was a Lion! (Please take note of the quilt on the chair!)

Austin was Spider Man! (and the quilt on the ottoman!)

Natalie was a Lady Bug!

Now on to Quilting!
I've been hearing a lot lately that people aren't considering their quilts done until they have been washed!  I am one of those people that have quilts in every room of my house, I am known to use a quilt as a tablecloth as well as a covering for the chair living room chairs and the living room couch (as proven by the pictures above!)!  Some people think I'm crazy but I love quilts, I love looking at them, feeling them and being surrounded by them.  Well this washing of quilts got me thinking about how much I love the feel of those quilts that have been washed again and again so I just HAD to give one of my newer quilts a wash!  Remember this quilt?  It's a 1600 that I made and quilted this past summer, it's been at one of our local quilt shops for the last few months and I recently pick it up.

Picture before I washed it.

After...

This picture shows it better (I know time to take a photo class!)
It is wonderfully puckery (is that a word?).
It's soft and cuddly and I am absolutely in LOVE with it!

I managed to get it washed and dried just in time, Natalie and Austin are on their way to my house!
I think we are going to have to put this quilt on the floor and have a tea party and a build a Lincoln Log House!

So in conclusion I think I have to start agreeing with what I'm hearing!  A quilt just may not be completely done until it's washed!  I've just thrown my all white quilt in the washer!  I'll show you how it comes out tomorrow!!

Pretty Batiks!

Here's the next quilt to go on the Long Arm!

Time to pick out thread color and a quilting pattern!  Isn't this really a beautiful quilt?

I'll post more pictures as soon as it's quilted.

Happy Quilting!

Old Gold Finished!

I finished the binding on this quilt today!  I LOVE it when the quilt is completely done!!  This quilt is one that I'm using as an example of the work that I do and I believe it is going to be used for a class this January, stay tuned for more information on the class.

This would be a perfect quilt for a college student or for a young girl's bedroom.  The name of the pattern is "Old Gold" and is from Pam & Nicky Lintott's book Layer Cake, Jelly Roll and Charm Quilts.

This was such a quick and easy quilt to make, it took 1 Layer Cake and 1 Jelly Roll.  The pattern didn't call for the wide border all around the quilt but I wanted one so I purchased an additional 2 1/2 yards of fabric for the border and the binding.

Here's a close up of the quilting:

Time to get working on the binding for the Whole Cloth Quilt and to get another customer's quilt on my Gammill Statler Longarm.  The next one is a really pretty White, Tan and Black quilt with pieced blocks and applique!!
